Altea and Surroundings

Altea offers important cultural activities and lots of possibilities for enjoying your free time: theme parks, museums, monuments and other tourist sites.

Altea historic center

One good option for getting acquainted with Altea is to take a stroll around the old town centre. Your route might begin in the Plaza del Convento, from which you go up along the Cuesta Pont de Montcau or the Costera del Mestre de la Música, until you reach the centre of the old town, with its maze of cobblestoned, staircased streets reminiscent of medieval times. Along the way you can see handicraft shops, stores and restaurants.

Once you arrive at the Plaza de la Iglesia del Consuelo, you can enjoy some magnificent views over the Bay of Altea from the lookout point, and perhaps shop for a nice souvenir in the handicrafts market held during Holy Week and in the summer months.

To get acquainted with the more modern and cosmopolitan area of the town, you can descend the street called Sant Pere or the Passeig del Mediterrani and take a long stroll along the beachfront.

Navarro Ramón Museum

This museum located in the local Casa de la Cultura of Altea provides an overview of the works by the famous painter Juan Navarro Ramón, born in this town in 1903.

Terra Mítica

This is the largest theme park in Spain, comprising five areas that recreate the ancient civilisations of the Mediterranean: Egypt, Rome, Greece, Iberia and The Islands. It has a wide variety of rides, shows, restaurants and shops. The most popular rides are the Argos Rapids, the Triton's Fury, the Circus Maximum and Tizona, the new upside-down rollercoaster. Guadalest Castle

This is Spain's second most visited monument after the Prado Musuem. It is a unique walled village which is accessed via a tunnel cut through the rock. Of note here are the prison and the castles of the Alcozaiba and the King, sitting on the highest point of the complex.

In town of Guadalest itself, you can visit the toy museum, the miniatures museum, and the contemporary art and ethnographic museums.

Castle of the Count of Alfaz

In the Castle of the Count of Alfaz del Pi you can enjoy a succulent dinner while watching an entertaining show staged by a series of actors and an authentic medieval tournament with knights bearing lances, swords, axes and shields.
